In 2018, I travelled through Europe with my mother. Only after the film was developed did I find that each frame had slipped onto the next, streets, strangers, rubbish and skies settling into layers. My mother must be somewhere within them, yet she can hardly be found.

Hervé Guibert's Ghost Image begins with a photograph of his mother that was never made. These photographs exist, but what they were meant to hold has dissolved into them. What remains is less a record of a journey than a layer of time, in which places, people and the act of looking blur into one unstable surface.
